South Lake County Historical Society board members, Jim Briggs and Carole Fernandes, recently posed for this recreation of the classic “American Gothic” with a straw hat, pitchfork and crescent moon outhouse. Come by the Village, 490 West Ave, any Friday from 1 pm to 3 pm and the odds are you will find Carole & Jim there ready to give you a guided tour, or play an old record on the gramophone for you, or even set the player piano to tinkling the ivories.
The Historic Village is a unique partnership between the city of Clermont and the Historical Society that is designed to show local residents & visitors to South Lake, what life was like here from the late 1880’s until the end of World War II. The location, 490 West Ave., is not far from the historic, downtown shopping district and is right on the shores of beautiful Lake Minneola which provides lovely views & breezes—ideal for a visit on a warm spring weekend. In addition to the Friday hours, the Village is open every Saturday & Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm. Admission to the Village is free, but a donation of $2.00 per adult is requested.

Attend a membership meeting held on the second Monday of the month at 7 pm in the Train Depot in the Historic Village, 490 West Ave., not far from Clermont’s Historic Downtown shopping district.
