Lake County Schools has published a brief two-question survey to determine whether the community thinks the school guardian program is a good idea for local schools.
The survey is open to employees, students, parents and community residents. It asks survey takers to identify themselves by category. It also asks whether they support the program, which would allow certain school personnel – such as administrators, ROTC instructors, current or former military service members, and former law enforcement officers – to voluntarily have access to a secured weapon on campus during school hours.
The program is a result of a new school safety law that was passed in the aftermath of the February shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland that killed 17 people.
