The Lake Minneola High School Marching Green and Gold has been invited to perform in the 2018 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Festival in Atlanta, GA! This will be the band’s first trip out of state! The Festival includes marching, concert, and jazz competition, as well as a parade through downtown Atlanta. The students also perform the pregame show for the Peach Bowl, held in the brand-new Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
They will join marching bands from across the country in the PreGame show and be performing the National Anthem of this major college bowl game. An invitation to perform at the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl is an honor extended to only for the most talented student performers from across the nation.
The Lake Minneola High School Marching Band was selected for this honor after having been recognized for their many accolades, including FMBC State Finalists the last two years. These accomplishments are a testament to the fine students and director’s efforts.
The invitation to such a prestigious event seems like an amazing announcement in and of itself. The even greater story lies in the unifying efforts of the students themselves. Under the leadership of Director Andy Deen, they have formed a cohesive band which has achieved high recognition in a short amount of time. The community has also rallied to support the fine example of unity, set by this fine band.
Under the direction of Andy Deen, the Marching Green and Gold will travel to Atlanta, Georgia where they will rehearse with the mass band and learn from nationally acclaimed adjudicators and march in the parade in downtown Atlanta. In their free time, they will enjoy the sights of Atlanta.
Andy Deen has been teaching for 6 years and will be personally leading the Lake Minneola High School band of 120 students to Atlanta. In his words, “We are honored to be invited to this prestigious event and are proud to represent Lake County in Atlanta. We hope that the community will rally behind the students and help us reach our fundraising goals.”
The students need to raise $15,000 to help offset the cost of transportation to Atlanta for three or four nights. They anticipate needing two or three charter buses and one or two Uhauls.
If you could support their GoFundMe by donating and then sharing it with your network, it would be appreciated, says Sean McNabb, VP, Minneola Instrumental Music Association (MIMA). Even $5 will help the students reach their goal.
