Clermont parkrun will be celebrating five years of hosting free weekly 5k runs on Saturday, April 28.
This year, Clermont parkrun has established the Personal Best (PB) Award to recognize an individual who has given his/her very best to help parkrun succeed. The first award will be presented this Saturday.
Recognition will begin around 7:20 am., with the run starting as close to 7:30 am as possible. The run starts and finishes at the pavilion on the trail just east of Lake Hiawatha Preserve and south approximately 200 yards from the restrooms on the trail/the roundabout. Attendees should park inside Lake Hiawatha Preserve and cross 12th Street at the crosswalk. Post-run refreshments will be available at the finish line.
Clermont parkrun is part of a network of 1,300+ weekly free 5k events that encourage a healthy, active lifestyle through running, jogging, or walking one of many courses around the globe. The network is entirely volunteer-run, with no one collecting any compensation for helping coordinate the weekly runs. Clermont parkrun was the second event in the United States (now up to nearly twenty) and remains the only parkrun in Florida. Clermont parkrun has thousands of international visitors each year visit Clermont to participate in the free events, many of whom would not have heard of Clermont but for hosting parkrun. The weekly runners appreciate the ability to make a positive impact in their local community and aiding in making Clermont, “The Choice of Champions.”
If you would like to participate in the run but have not done so previously, there is a short registration process with parkrun headquarters that will generate a unique barcode that you print and bring with you each time you participate. Registration is required only once. The same barcode is used week after week. Here is a shortcut to the registration link: https://www.parkrun.us/register/form/ It will take fewer than two minutes, and no other confirmation is needed.
Here is a link to our dedicated parkrun site, where you can see many more statistics about the great things this free event brings to the community: http://www.parkrun.us/clermontwaterfront/.
The current average number of participants is around 100 per week and will grow considerably over the summer. For reference, our average number of participants each week over the past five years is 77, of which we will have anywhere from 10 to 50 international visitors on a given Saturday.
