Third grade students in Lake surpassed the state average on the language arts section of the 2018 Florida Standards Assessment.

According to data released by the state Department of Education late Thursday, 61 percent of Lake’s third-graders scored at Level 3 or above compared to 57 percent of third-grade students statewide. That’s a slight drop from 2017 when 63 percent of Lake students scored at Level 3 or above compared to 58 percent statewide.

Eustis, Groveland, Leesburg, The Villages, and Triangle elementary schools along with Minneola Elementary and Round Lake charter schools all saw increases in the percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or above compared to last year.

Under Florida law, students who score Level 1 – the lowest possible score – could face retention. Statewide, 20 percent of third graders scored at Level 1 this year. In Lake, 16 percent did.

State, district, and school scores are available on the education department website.

Lake parents will be able to see individual student scores through the parent portal by the end of next week.
