Montverde Academy is proud to announce that Susan Tortora, Dean of External Program Development and Head Coach Track and Field, has been elected to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Board of Directors.

Ms. Tortora has more than 30 years of experience at private schools as a teacher, coach and administrator. She joined Montverde Academy in 2003 and has served as dean for the past eight years, responsible for FHSAA and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) compliance, monitoring the academic progress and core course work for students to ensure eligibility and participation in Division I and II schools upon graduation. She is currently the head track and field coach and has been for 13 years. Prior to joining MVA, Tortora worked as a teacher, academic advisor and coach at the Bolles School for more than 21 years.

She has extensive knowledge of FHSAA and NCAA guidelines and eligibility rules having served as a member of the FHSAA representative assembly and the International Student Task Force Committee. She has shared her knowledge as a presenter on athletic eligibility at several FCIS conferences and served on the Public Liaison Advisory Committee at FHSAA representing coaches on the Leadership Council which includes members of several Florida athletic organizations including Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA), Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS), Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (FIAAA), and FHSAA, as a representative for FCIS.

“Sue Tortora is a valuable part of the Montverde Academy team, ensuring that the more than 300 student-athletes in our programs are on track and eligible to participate in sports with accuracy and efficiency is an important job that she does well,” said Dr. Kasey C. Kesselring, Headmaster, Montverde Academy. “She will bring her extensive knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to the position, which makes her a great addition to the FHSAA Board of Directors.”
