Alan Hays, Lake County Supervisor of Elections, announced that his office has relocated to 1898 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares. The new location offers voters the convenience of being able to accomplish all voter services in one easily accessible location.
The new site will also be one of the ten early voting locations for the Primary Election held on August 28th and the General Election slated for November 6th. Early voting hours run from 10 am to 6 pm August 16th- August 25th for the Primary and from October 22nd – November 3rd for the General. It will also be a drop-off site for voters who choose to vote by mail.
“Our goal with relocating was to consolidate all our services under one roof instead of having our administrative services in one location and our training facility and voting equipment warehoused in another,” Hays stated. Voters will have ample parking and will not have to navigate downtown Tavares to ensure their voter services needs are met. “One of the major pluses for voters and the elections team with the new location is enhanced security. The ability to monitor one location and ensure all equipment deployed on Election Day is secure and ready for the first vote to be cast will help ensure our elections run smoothly,” Hays further commented.
The move is just in time to remind voters of registration deadlines prior to the August Primary. All new registrations and party affiliation changes must be made prior to July 30th. The registration books close on that date. “Since we now have electronic poll books, some updates such as change of address can be made on Election Day; however, voters are encouraged to update their address prior to coming to the polls. Updating your record is one of the easiest ways to avoid delays on Election Day,” relayed Hays.
The elections office will have a ceremonial ribbon cutting soon and will be hosting an Open House and tour of the new facility after the November 6th election.
