Saturday morning was a perfect time to do a couple of laps on the trails under the live oaks at Lake Hiawatha Preserve. There were 130 participants at this week’s parkrun with 42 of them being first timers at the Clermont event.
Twelve runners recorded personal bests. Summertime holidaymakers were also a big part of the action with parkrun tourists Tim Gallagher and his daughter Katie visiting from the Livonia, Michigan parkrun. We also were very happy to have a couple dozen runners from Great Britain and Ireland testing their metal in the early Florida sunshine. Finally, the visiting Windermere High School Cross Country team made an excellent showing among the top finishers.
Finishing first was Clermont first-timer Noah Ellenback from Windermere with a time of 18:46. In second, right on Noah’s heels, with the same time was John Brodie completing his tenth parkrun. In third, was Sean Farquhar, visiting from Northern Ireland and representing the Gaelic Athletic Club; his time was 20:33 and was a new personal best. Honorable mention goes to our fourth place finisher Lucas Keith, another parkrun tourist, from Arlington, VA competing in the junior male 11-14-year-old category with a time of 20:45.
Among the women, Samantha Lopez and Katie Leigh Ranck from Windermere finished first and second with times of 22:47 and 22:57 respectively. In third place, representing Team S4 was Reagan Parks finishing in 23:31.
This event was made possible by 10 dedicated volunteers: Rissie Thieler, Josh Castleman, Sally Schade, Carolyn Harmon, Daniel Whitehouse, Amanda Furrow, Tricia Dymond, Mary Surprenant, Maureen Mannion, and Jim Pickering.
