Gary Clark, a former Citizen of the Year, presented the South Lake Chamber of Commerce Ann Dupee Gem of the Hills Award to its newest Gem Bridgette Bennett.
Bridgette was born in Kingston, Jamaica and moved to the United States in 1988. She is an attorney whose solo practice focuses exclusively on Immigration and Nationality law. Her law firm is community-centric and is dedicated to serving the immigration needs of the local and global clientele. She believes in education as a means of addressing many issues facing non-citizens today and offers free educational seminars at local churches and community-based organizations.
In November 2013, Bridgette along with a group of women from Faith Point Church in Clermont started an outreach program called “Helping Hands Ministry.”
Helping Hands Ministry along with her law firm serves more than 300 hot meals each month along with giving clothes, shoes, groceries and other items to those needing assistance. For back to school, Helping Hands provided free medical exams, haircuts, and book bags. In addition, 200 book bags were donated to elementary and high school students.
This is a special week for Bridgette. She is not only the recipient of the distinctive Ann Dupee Gem of the Hills Award but, only the day before, celebrated her birthday.
Bridgette Bennett, Happy Birthday and Congratulations!
