La Forza del Destino (The Force of Destiny) by Giuseppe Verdi
The Friends of the Cooper Memorial Library will host Opera @ the Library on Monday, September 24, at 1:45 pm in room 108 B, presenting Giuseppe Verdi’s La Forza del Destino (The Force of Destiny).
La Forza del Destino is an Italian opera by Giuseppe Verdi with a libretto written by Francesco Maria Piave. It is based on a Spanish drama, Don Álvaro o la fuerza del sino (1835), by Ángel de Saavedra, 3rd Duke of Rivas, with a scene adapted from Friedrich Schiller’s Wallensteins Lager. It was first performed in the Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre of Saint Petersburg, Russia, on 10 November 1862. La Forza del Destino is frequently performed, and the overture to the revised version of the opera is part of the standard repertoire for orchestras, often played as the opening piece at concerts.
This is a free program with English subtitles. We hope to enhance your knowledge and appreciation of this beautiful art form. Light refreshments will be provided during the intermission for our guests.
