The Florida Department of Health in Lake County will observe National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD), October 15.  Free HIV Testing will be offered at The Florida Department of Health Umatilla located at 249 E. Collins Street from 1 pm. to 3  pm. No appointment necessary.

This year marks the fifteenth year of what has become the annual observance of NLAAD. This year’s theme, “Ending HIV is everyone’s job,” speaks to everyone who is willing to invest their energy in eliminating new HIV infections and helping persons living with HIV to achieve viral suppression.  Among adults in Florida, one in every 155 Hispanics/Latinos were living with HIV in 2017 – compared to one in every 295 whites.

In addition to the free rapid 20-minute testing offered at the event, the Florida Department of Health in Lake County can perform a mouth swab to test for HIV, which will be sent to the State laboratory. Results are available in approximately 3 weeks.
