The City of Clermont will give out a thousand free Slash pine tree seedlings with instructions on how to care for them in honor of Florida’s Arbor Day.

The annual event will be held on Saturday, January 19 at Lake Hiawatha Preserve’s East Pavilion, 420 Lake Minneola Shores/County Road 561. The giveaway starts at 8 am and will last until all trees are gone.

“We’re glad to provide these trees and we hope that the public will take advantage of this great giveaway,” City Manager Darren Gray said. “The City of Clermont continues to be a role model for environmental consciousness and to seek ways to enhance our green community.”

The City of Clermont’s Public Works Department provides the seedlings, and its Parks and Recreation Department also assists with the event.

The annual giveaway is one of many reasons that the City of Clermont has been nationally recognized as a Tree City USA community of 19 years; the city also earned a Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation because of the city’s commitment to expanding public trees.
