For several centuries, the traditional 40 Hours Devotion has been celebrated in parishes as a time of annual renewal and prayer. It originated in the early part of the 16th Century in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Milan, Italy probably as a commemoration of the 40 hours that Christ’s body lay in the tomb between his death and resurrection. During these 40 hours, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed continually for prayer, both formal and informal, and adoration.
As a part of our Diocesan Year of the Eucharist, a 40 Hours Devotion will occur at Blessed Sacrament Church in Clermont from Thursday evening, January 17, beginning with a Solemn Mass and Procession at 7 pm and concluding with Solemn Benediction on Saturday, January 19 at Noon. Special devotions will occur at Midnight, 3 am, 6 am, 9 am, Noon, 3 pm and 9 pm throughout the 40 Hours.
