Elementary School Fair is January 31.
Middle and High School Fair is February 1
The annual Regional Science and Engineering Fair, sponsored by Lake County Schools Curriculum and Instruction Department, provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their expertise in STEM through 21st Century Skills. Additionally, the students’ science projects are a great way for them to enhance their knowledge of the Florida Science Standards, strengthen skills for interviewing and build confidence for postsecondary endeavors.
Student projects included in the Regional Science and Engineering Fair represent the highest quality scientific projects from Lake County Schools. These projects were selected at each school site’s science fair. Students who were selected will be interviewed and judged by teachers and professionals from the community.
The public is invited to attend the Lake County Regional Science and Engineering Fair Open House on Thursday, Jan. 31 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm for elementary school projects and Friday, February 1, from 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm for middle and high school projects. Both will be held at First Baptist Church of Mount Dora, Family Ministry Center, 1000 E. 1st Ave. Mount Dora.
The Awards Ceremony will follow the Open House. During the Awards Ceremony, students will be awarded first, second, and third place, and honorable mention trophies or ribbons. Additionally, special awards may include cash donations, gift certificates, and numerous other prizes. The selection of place winners is based on the quality of scientific study and the use of the correct experimental protocol in following the scientific method to solve a problem scored using a rubric by trained judges. The top middle and high school individual winners and top team winners could advance to State Science and Engineering Fair in Lakeland, from March 26 – March 28, 2019.
Lake County Schools would like to thank all of the businesses, service organizations, and patrons that donated prizes for this year’s Lake County Regional Science and Engineering Fair. The partnering between the community and Lake County Schools makes this event possible and we express our sincere gratitude.
