The Spring Games is one of the largest college softball events founded in 2008 by Dr. Dot Richardson. The Games are a series of college softball games open to all colleges and universities across the USA and Canada.
Each year, Legends Way Ballfields welcome over 300 college softball teams to kickstart their seasons during the months of February, March, and April. The Spring Games represents the college softball team’s first “go” at competition after a long winter.
The Cardinals, Saint Mary’s University women’s fastpitch team from Winona, Minnesota, is one of the competitors who recently arrived in Clermont to play. Before arriving, Sam Borawski, the assistant coach of the team, asked if the team could volunteer while in the area, writing, “We will be bringing our 23 player team to the Clermont area. We were wondering if there are any volunteer opportunities that we can collaborate on for while we are in the area.”
The Team arrived at Faith Neighborhood Center in Groveland on the February 26th. The group jumped right in and helped the center staff and volunteers clean out two walk-in freezers. They also unloaded and processed a semi-trailer full of food from Second Harvest Food Bank. The new FNC truck was also loaded with diapers. The diapers were going to a local partner agency in need. When the work was completed, the team returned to their busy softball schedule.
“They accomplished a tremendous amount of work” stated Patricia Kry, Executive Director of FNC. “In just a few hours they completed work that would have taken us more than a day. We feel blessed to have had this incredible group of young women with a heart for service visit our center.”
Faith Neighborhood Center is located at 14727 Timber Village Road in Groveland. Learn more about Faith Neighborhood Center by visiting their website FNC.
