In honor of National Pet Fire Safety Day, The Orlando Cat Café donated two Pet Oxygen Masks to Lake County Fire Rescue. Fire Marshall Michael Vitta and Lake County Commissioner Sean Parks attended the presentation ceremony on Monday, July 15th at the Orlando Cat Café.
“Each year more than 500,000 pets are affected by house fires and our hope is that the donation of these masks will help save precious pet lives,” said Sandy Cagan, founder of the Cat Café, which celebrated its 500th adoption on July 14.
National Pet Fire Safety Day was established by The American Kennel Club and ADT Security Services to help reduce the estimated 50,000 pets affected by home fires every year. This nationwide awareness day educates pet owners about potential risks when pets are left home alone and provides them with proven prevention measures to ensure their safety.
“Losing a pet due to a house fire is a devastating experience. As most pet owners leave their furry companions home alone when they go to work, pets are left to fend for themselves in the event of a house fire. Unlike humans who instinctively run out during fires, pets instinctively look for a hiding place to protect themselves. Far too many pets die each year of smoke asphyxiation. While firemen attempt to get pets safely out of burning structures, they are not able to revive them unless they have the proper equipment, which is why pet oxygen masks are needed. These specially-designed animal masks can be used both on conscious pets that have suffered from smoke inhalation and pets that need to be resuscitated after losing consciousness from exposure to the dangerous toxic fumes,” says Sandra Cagan, owner of the Orlando Cat Café.
In addition to cats, the reusable Wag’N Pet Oxygen Mask Kits come with 3 different size masks that can be used on dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, and many more species.
