The public can pick up free sandbags from 8 am to 8 pm on Aug. 29 and 30, as well as from 8 am to noon on August 31 at West Park, 658 12th St. The park is located on the northwest corner of 12th Street and West Minneola Avenue, just west of Downtown Clermont and between the Clermont Public Works facility and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

The sand and bags will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. City staff will give out up to 10 empty bags per vehicle per visit to be filled on-site; the bags provided by the city are about 30” x 16” in dimension and hold an estimated 60 pounds of sand each. You may also bring your own bags and may fill as many of those as desired. City staff will be on hand to assist those in need of help filling the bags. Please bring your own shovels, as city provided tools will be limited.

Much uncertainty remains regarding Tropical Storm Dorian and its potential impact to Central Florida over the Labor Day weekend. The City of Clermont encourages residents to stay informed and to prepare now by reviewing your emergency plan and evaluating your hurricane preparedness kit.
