Lake County Fire Rescue received a Grant to correct shift size. The new positions made possible by the grant will provide an opportunity to add an additional firefighter on some of Fire Rescue’s more active units, ultimately improving operational efficiency, staff and public safety. Additionally, the grant will help reduce overtime, particularly mandatory overtime.
“These staffing changes will dramatically improve response times, increase the safety of citizens and help prevent injury to personnel,” said Lake County Fire Rescue Chief Jim Dickerson.
The federal funding will allow Fire Rescue to move closer to achieving the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA 1710) recommended standards. The standard specifies requirements for effective and efficient organization and deployment of fire suppression operations, emergency medical operations, and special operations to the public by career fire departments to protect residents and the occupational safety and health of fire department employees.
The career firefighters of Lake County Fire Rescue protect county residents and visitors in an area covering approximately 1,200 square miles, with nearly 70,000 residences and up to 2,000 commercial properties.
