The City of Groveland partners with Hope International Church and local sponsors to provide 430 pizzas and 350 two-liter cokes, to community residents.
During this national pandemic, many families have experienced personal hardship as it relates to food sources and options. To assist residents with ways to acquire meals more easily, the City introduced their “Let’s Eat” Initiative, partnering with local organizations, restaurants, food trucks and farmers, to increase meal options and availability during this time.
In line with the initiative, the City has teamed with Hope International Church and other local sponsors, for a Community Unity Drive-Through event, to provide each family with one free large pizza and a two-liter coke, as a “thinking of you” gesture to the community. A total of 350 pizzas and two-liter sodas will be distributed to those families who drive through the parking lot of Hope International Church on Friday, April 10th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM while supplies last. The second distribution of food will be given to South Lake Hospital Health Care Providers and City of Groveland first responders, Police and Fire Department.

“As we continue to weather this COVID-19 storm together, we want our residents to know how much we care,” said Mayor Evelyn Wilson. “Everyone has to eat. We hope those who are in need, will come to grab a meal.”
The City recognizes that frontline workers such as healthcare professionals and first responders need extra support during this time, as well as those families who have now transitioned to an at-home routine. Having this one meal can help a family tremendously, as many are now having to find meals for their children who are no longer in school.
“We are proud to team up with the City of Groveland and local sponsors, to express our love for the community during this pandemic,” said Hope International Church Senior Pastor, Dr. Tony McCoy. “Love is best expressed when we all come together to see about each other’s needs – love never fails.”
In observance of CDC health safety recommendations, this event will be a drive-through style distribution process. Vehicles will pull up under the breezeway where volunteers wearing long sleeves and gloves will hand them their free pizza and soda. All vehicle participants are asked to remain in their vehicles throughout the entire process and to please continue driving once they have received their meal.
