A new Day Dawning

A Message From Clermont Chief Of Police Broadway

There is a lot of anxiety and uncertainty regarding what we see going on in this

Clermont Police Chief Broadway

world and two upcoming protests tomorrow in Clermont, Lake County.

The support, prayers, messages, and kind acts from our community are for certain a consistent reminder of hope, strength in unity, and peace that will break down barriers and bring healing to those hurting.

Another thing for certain is that your men and women of the Clermont Police Department, along with assistance from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement municipalities, are prepared to protect everyone’s rights for peaceful protest and committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens.

South Lake Tablet Editorial: The First Amendment provides several rights: Freedom of speech, the press, and to assemble or gather with a group to peacefully protest. Across the Nation, people are protesting racism and the excessive abuse of power by police officers. The protests began after the death of George Floyd and the recent murders of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. All three people had one thing in common, they were black. The abuse of power by police is unconscionable. Unless you are black, it’s difficult to realize the fear, anger, grief, and the sense of frustration they experience. You can say you understand but unless you live it, you don’t understand it. This is everyone’s time to empathize, unite and support equal rights for all.

Clermont residents have the finest, most trusted law enforcement officers in the county. So, as the people of south Lake assemble in peaceful protest, remember their constitutional rights and also the duty of our Clermont police officers and the Lake County Sheriff’s department to protect its citizens. If you truly want change, get out and VOTE this November.

Violence will not come from our community but from outside agitators.  During these difficult times, don’t allow thugs, looters, or terrorists to tarnish the name of our community. Everyone has an iPhone or camera. Identify any unlawful activity and the people promoting it. If you see something suspicious, take a picture or get it on video. Catch them doing bad.
