The Clermont Police Department (CPD) soon will be evaluated for state re-accreditation, Police Chief Charles Broadway announced today.
A team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) will conduct a remote assessment from July 21-23 to examine all aspects of the Clermont Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services. Clermont Police has received the accreditation continuously since 2004, and it lasts three years at a time.
“Verification by the team that the Clermont Police Department meets the commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain or maintain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence,” Broadway said. “Compliance with these standards ensures that our department is providing exceptional police services to the community.”
The Clermont Police Department has to comply with about 240 standards in order to receive accredited status. Many of the standards are critical to life, health and safety issues.
Following COVID-19 precautions, the assessors will remotely access all the necessary files to help ensure the safety of all those involved. As part of this assessment, agency members and the general public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies who will remotely review written materials and interview individuals, said CPD Accreditation Program Manager Lt. Shane Strickland.
Once the commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full commission, which will then decide if the agency is to receive accredited status.
