Clermont Police Sergeant Chris Martin was recognized at the Clermont City Council meeting as the 2020 Superintendent of the Year.
Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway described Sergeant Christopher Martin’s long list of accomplishments.
“Sergeant Chris Martin joined the Clermont Police Department in 2015 after serving several years with the Leesburg Police Department. He brought a wealth of knowledge and experience from Leesburg PD and made an immediate impact within the Clermont Police Department and the Clermont community.
Sgt Martin filled a vacancy and became an acting supervisor for approximately 2 years prior to getting promoted. During his time he would go above and beyond what was expected of an acting supervisor. He truly is a Selfless leader who made sure his personnel were all recognized for their accomplishments and that they received proper recognition.
He also serves on the Pension Board and the Union Board. In these positions, he works for all of the officers at the Clermont Police Department, to make sure their benefits are handled appropriately and that the benefits will continue to be there for officers in the future.
He has also taken the time with several officers in the department, many of which were not under his command, to talk about benefits and retirement and provide them resources and information to make the best decisions for them and their families.
Due to his knowledge, strong work ethic and experience, Sergeant Martin, was selected by his supervisors to train future supervisors. He helped prepare them for their new supervisory duties as well as imparted leadership qualities. He trained them on all aspects of their new responsibilities to prepare them to be successful sergeants for the CPD.
In April 2020, Clermont Police Officer Conrad Buckley became very ill. Sergeant Martin was Officer Buckley’s direct supervisor. He became fully involved with helping Officer Buckley and his family during a time in dire need.
In April of 2020, when Police Officer Buckley passed; Sergeant Martin dropped everything in his own personal life, to be with Officer Buckley’s family. He walked with them every step of the way through the process. Long hours, late nights and early mornings, it did not matter, Sergeant Martin was there every time. He helped secure meals and donations for the family through members of the Clermont Police Department and from the community.
He mowed their lawn and ran errands for his immediate family. He was also there to help the family with all of the logistics in planning the memorial service for Officer Buckley. He delivered a moving speech and gave a wonderful tribute to honor the legacy of Police Officer Conrad Buckley.

- An Aggravated Stalking and Written Threats To Kill case. Under his leadership, the subject responsible was arrested.

- A noise complaint… whereas Officers located dogs in the apartment that had their mouths taped shut. Under his leadership, The subject was charged with Animal Cruelty and the dogs were turned over to Animal Control to be properly cared for.

- A traffic crash with serious injuries and a fatality. Sgt. Martin took command of the scene, allocated resources and personnel appropriately while giving attention and showing compassion to grieving loved ones. He ensured the safety of the motorists in the area as well as the involved parties, witnesses and first responders on the scene.
Sgt Martin is very passionate about police work and motivates his personnel to go above and beyond. Under his leadership, the Bravo evening squad was the most proactive squad and consistently made more arrests than any other squad. Also due to Sgt. Martin’s efforts and leadership, Bravo squad produced the most DUI arrests than any other squad within the agency.
