Boys and girls from the Reach Out Summer Camp at the Imagine Charter School got to spend the morning of Friday, June 24th at Clermont’s Historic Village. Not only did they get to tour all the buildings and play old-time games, but they also got to meet Sunny the new therapy dog in training from Read to Sydney. In addition, the city of Clermont sent a backhoe, a fire truck, a police car, and a gentleman to tell them about safe drinking water.
The Historical Society is dedicated to sharing information about Clermont’s past with the visitors to the Historic Village and no visitor pleases them more than interested young people. Weekday tours of the Village by summer camps and/or schools can be arranged by contacting the Village Manager, Roxanne Brown, at 352-242-7734.
The Historic Village is conveniently located at 490 West Avenue, not far from the downtown historic shopping district. It is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. A donation of $5.00 per person over 12 is requested. If you are expecting out-of-town company this summer and they will not be here on a weekend, you can contact Roxanne at the number above and she will try to make arrangements for a private tour. $5.00 per person is required for these tours.
If you are interested in the history of Clermont or history in general, why not consider joining the Historical Society? Membership is only $25 annually for an individual and $35 for a couple. Our monthly meetings are held on the second Monday of each month in the Train Depot at the Historic Village. The board meeting (open to the public) is at 6:00 PM. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 11th.
