The 3rd Annual Honoring the Fallen 5K Race was held on Saturday, March 4th in downtown Clermont at Suncreek Brewery. The event honors those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives while serving others. The proceeds are utilized to help the families of those officers and other officers in a time of need.
Two hundred twenty-nine police officers lost their lives in the line of duty during the 2022 calendar year. This year, through February, has already realized the death of thirty law enforcement, line of duty fatalities nationwide.
Honoring the Fallen 5K is jointly sponsored by the Clermont Police Department, community partners and the Kiwanis Club of South Lake with event support from FloDash Events.
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadets- Clermont Battalion opened the event with the presentation of flag colors and an honor guard.

Many of the three hundred-plus entries carried the nationally recognized “thin blue line” flag with them as they traveled from SunCreek Brewery, to the Lake Hiawatha Preserve and back.
First through third place, overall winners were Kevin Lederer, 1st Place with a time of 18:47, Timothy Konrath, 2nd Place with a time of 19:22 and Dan Lilley, 3rd Place with a time of 20:37. First Place in the Women’s Division was Martha Hidalgo with a time of 21:18.
