A meeting of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) was held on March 28. A topic of importance to the residents and developers in Lake County:

  • Establishing a temporary moratorium on new residential preliminary plat applications; or
  • Requiring residential subdivisions of 50 lots or more to rezone to a Planned Unit Development (PUD)

A temporary moratorium on new residential plat applications would allow Lake County staff and BCC the time to catch up and do their due diligence on plat applications. However, a moratorium may be considered a cost to the property owner/developer and a loss of tax revenue to the County. A moratorium may also hinder the much-needed inventory of Affordable Housing.

The BCC voted 3-2 to implement the 50-lot PUD requirement.

There is definitely a need for Affordable Housing in Lake County; however, the family looking for a well-built starter or new-beginning home can’t afford what many developers consider affordable and the county approves as affordable.
