Lance Sewell, Senior Vice President, Orlando Health North Central Region; President, Orlando Health South Lake Hospital

“Our entire team worked very hard to achieve our 10th consecutive ‘A’ grade, so we’re extremely proud” said Lance Sewell, senior vice president, Orlando Health North Central Region and president, Orlando Health South Lake Hospital. “But the ultimate winners today are our patients in Lake County where South Lake was the only ‘A’-rated hospital. And for that, we are very pleased.”

George Ralls, MD, chief medical officer, Orlando Health.

“The ‘A’ grades are a direct result of the steps we’ve taken as an organization to protect our patients from harm to ensure the best possible outcomes,” said George Ralls, MD, chief medical officer, Orlando Health. “Our clinical teams have focused their collective and unwavering efforts on achieving the highest quality standards when caring for our patients.  In keeping with our mission, the 10 consecutive “A” grades at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital demonstrates our commitment to improve the health and quality of life in the communities we serve.

Across a spectrum of services and facilities, Orlando Health has been recognized both locally and nationally for providing high-quality care. Orlando Health Hospitals were recognized as Best Hospitals with high-performing care for 2022-2023 by U.S. News & World Report. In the regional hospital ranking, Orlando Health ranked #8 in Florida and #2 in the Orlando Metro Area. Orlando Health is also the recipient of 25 active Beacon Awards for Excellence in bedside care – more than any other healthcare system in Florida. The distinction is awarded by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses to units that employ evidence-based practices to improve patient and family outcomes. And The American Heart Association (AHA) recently recognized five Orlando Health hospitals for consistently following the most up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of stroke.

The Leapfrog Group gave Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital a “B” grade, while Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital and Bayfront Health St. Petersburg – facilities that joined  Orlando Health in 2020 – earned “C” grades. Due to the lag in outcomes data used for grading by national organizations sucH as The Leapfrog Group, current grades do not reflect outcomes achieved after Orlando Health’s acquisition of these two facilities.
