Sunny the Therapy Pup began his summer community tour on Tuesday, May 16th with a stop by The Neighborhood Center of South Lake (TNCSL), Groveland. Sunny is the newest member of the Read to Sydney organization. A non-profit organization that emphasizes in assisting children with reading and literacy.

While providing snacks and goodies to the volunteers and staff at TNCSL, Sunny was also busy collecting food and donations to assist TNCSL with its Summer Feeding Program for children. Read to Sydney’s Sunny donated a total of 103 pounds of food, including fruit cups, pasta, granola bars and much more.

The program runs from the month of June and continues into August when the fall, school session begins. Many children become food challenged during the summer, a nationwide problem that often results in children going without proper nutrition for days, weeks or longer.

Non-profit organizations such as The Neighborhood Center of South Lake attempt to fill the void by providing healthy, nutritional options for its clients. A task that can be daunting during difficult times when food prices have escalated sharply, and many donations have declined at a steep rate. You can help with donations or volunteer time at the TNCSL by visiting www.tncsl.org
