Former Major League Baseball players will offer a free clinic to youth 6-16 years old at the Jimmy Thomas Memorial Park in Groveland on June 1 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The Major League Baseball Players Alumni’s Legends for Youth clinic will teach the fundamentals of the game.
Mike Walker, Director of Groveland’s Parks and Community Services, who is a former MLB pitcher, said the popular clinic will kick off an exciting schedule of summer recreational programs that include dance, basketball, soccer, volleyball and arts-and-crafts classes.
Additionally, the City will host Wacky Wednesday Water Days, with special splash programs offered at rotating city parks from June 7 – July 26. In addition to inflatable water slides and icy treats, there will be fun educational programs that include zoo animals and more, emphasizing the city’s natural charm.
“Our baseball clinic will draw many children from Groveland and beyond,” Walker said. “We are excited to offer this amazing experience.”
Walker said that the roster of MLB legends coming to the Groveland clinic has not been finalized yet. The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Legends for Youth is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the game of baseball by inspiring and educating youth through positive sports experiences.
Before his career in parks and recreation, Walker was a professional baseball player who pitched for the Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers organizations.
