Groveland, the City with Natural Charm

The Groveland City Council unanimously approved a new logo and tagline, (slogan), at its regularly-scheduled meeting Monday night. The new logo features an artistic rendering of the letter G that includes a green upper half, a blue lower half that looks like ripples on a lake with a leaf capping off the letter. Below the icon are the words “Groveland, Florida” and the new tagline “City with Natural Charm.

The design is a reflection of the city’s current agricultural enterprises, which include Cherrylake and Lake Catherine Blueberries. The lake reference is a nod to the city’s many waterways. The new tagline is a reference to months of focus groups and prior visioning sessions in which people overwhelmingly said it was the hills, lakes and natural environment that drew them to the city.

“We’re excited about this new look, which captures what people love about Groveland,” said Mayor Evelyn Wilson.

The presentation by Alarie Design Associates of Winter Garden, the city’s branding partner, was met with enthusiastic applause by the audience and an immediate unanimous vote of approval by the five-member city council.

Upon approval, newly-logoed police and utility car zoomed up beside the windows of the Puryear Building, where the council meeting was held. Logoed vests and caps were passed out to the council members and some of the audience.

This morning, employees were told of the news and given caps with the new logo.

Groveland’s former logo included an orange. The city manager said it would always hold sentimental value but did not accurately portray the city currently, one of Central Florida’s fastest growing communities. Citrus has been largely gone from the region since a December 1989 freeze.

Today, Groveland is home to Cherrylake, a thriving, multi-million commercial landscaping firm, and one of Central Florida’s largest industrial parks. New enterprises, such as an olive grove by a former Disney chef, and new residential developments have changed the economic drivers. The city is proud that it has kept its historic nature and natural features while experiencing such growth.
