The South Lake Chamber of Commerce held its business breakfast on St. Patrick’s Day (Friday, March 17) and lots of green filled the room at the Clermont City Center.
Sheriff Peyton C. Grinnell of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department was the guest speaker.
Sheriff Grinnell’s major topic was the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), which leverages available camera feeds to help fight crime. RTCC provides Law Enforcement with the ability to capitalize on a wide and expanding range of technologies for efficient and effective policing. Agencies may struggle with filtering out what is immediately important versus what can be useful later. The RTCC can help deliver more critical and timely information to officers and detectives. This is a major step forward and an evolving process that will change as time passes, as lessons are learned, and as new resources and technologies become available.
Sheriff Grinnell is a lifelong resident of Florida, born in Eustis, and a graduate of Leesburg High School. He is a decorated combat Marine Corps veteran with distinguished service in the Republic of Panama during Operation Just Cause and the Middle East during Operations Desert Shield/Storm. He and his wife of 32 years, Jennifer, have two children, Lauren and Blake.
Lynnea Weissman of the Lake County Schools representative spoke about the Incubator program. This year East Ridge High School is offering students an authentic collaborative, entrepreneurship experience with INCubatoredu. Students have the opportunity to create and fully develop their own product or service. Entrepreneurs and business experts serve as volunteer coaches and mentors guiding student teams to a ‘shark tank’ type of finish in April at East Ridge High School.
Muse Bistro & Bar was the breakfast caterer. Its owner Aaron Straub spoke briefly on Muse, a fresh, farm-to-table restaurant, serving Tues through Sunday. On Mondays, Muse Fights Hunger, feeding food-insecure families through the generous donations of volunteers, vendors, and community partners, providing time, products and funding.
For every item purchased including retail items, a portion of the profits will go to help fund Community Day Mondays and its Vocational Training Program. Muse Bistro & Bar is located at Clermont Landing Shopping Plaza, 2385 South Highway 27, Clermont.
